Balvenie 12 Year Old Montilla Cask A Collection of Curious Casks

A new chapter in Balvenie’s Collection of Curious Casks, The 12 Year Old Montilla Wine Seasoned Cask, selected by Balvenie’s Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie and released in 2025.
The Balvenie Stories collection is designed to bring to life the tales of 'character, endeavour and craft' of those at Balvenie through the generations. Balvenie’s ‘A Collection of Curious Casks’ consists in a range of single cask releases within the Stories range. These casks hold a special place in The Balvenie story.
This Limited Edition 12 Year Old Single Malt was matured in European oak casks seasoned with sweet wine from Montilla in Andalusia, Spain. The artwork on the label and box was done by Andy Lovell, featuring McKechnie in the iconic Warehouse 24.

Nose:    Delicate, fresh barley sugar flowing into honey, balanced by toasted oak.

Taste:    Candied sweetness evolving to rich vanilla oak, warming spice, and dried apricots.

    Finish:   Refreshing sweetness.

The Balvenie is a unique range of single malts created by David C. Stewart MBE, The Balvenie Malt Master. Their Core Range gains its distinctive character from maturation in two distinct cask types in succession, a proprietary process pioneered by David in 1983 with The Balvenie Classic. Each whisky has its own unique taste, but each is rich, luxuriously smooth and underpinned by the distinctively honeyed character of The Balvenie.
Balvenie’s whisky-making process is dedicated to maintaining the Five Rare Crafts and it is the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own barley, uses traditional floor maltings and keeps both a coppersmith and a team of coopers on site.
