Springbank 17 Year Old Madeira Wood Single Malt Whisky

Springbank distillery is located in Campbeltown, a picturesque Scottish town situated at the southern end of the Kintyre Peninsula on the glorious west coast.

The first reference to Campbeltown whisky is recorded in writing in 1591. Springbank was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still, becoming the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. Today, Springbank is one of only three distilleries operating in the Campbeltown area and is the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland.

A really rather exciting release from Springbank here! This Campbeltown single malt was initially matured in an intriguing combo of rum and bourbon barrels, before being moved over to fresh Madeira hogsheads for a three-year-long finishing.

Nose:   Big rich flavours with ginger cake, toffee, grapefruit rind and strawberry jam coming through strongly with underlying saline and smoky notes.

Taste:    Spicy black pepper and briny peat leads with sweet notes of caramelised ginger, salted caramel and fennel coming through, and a thick oily feel in the mouth.

Finish:    Long, peat character mingles with walnuts.

Please note: Springbank labels are extremely prone to scuffing. We cannot guarantee these items are like new.

Note: Product has come from a private collection, minor markings are inevitable and collectors should have reasonable expectations in this regard.
