The Sazerac Family established a vineyard and distillery to make Eaux De Vie in the Cognac region in 1630. Since its origins in the Cognac region of western France, the Sazerac family name has elicited recognition and respect in the spirits industry.
Between 1800 and 1850, Sazerac De Forge Et Fils Cognac lands in New Orleans and soon becomes a popular local drink, in turn leading to various iterations of the Sazerac House.
Sazerac New Orleans was founded in 1869 after the purchase by Thomas H. Handy of the Sazerac Coffee House, a bar and importer of a brand of cognac named Sazerac de Forge. Their locations in historic New Orleans, and their famous proprietors and patrons, all played a major role in the development of the wholesale liquor business that later evolved into the thriving company that Sazerac has become today.
In 2006 Sazerac Rye Whiskey brand is launched in packaging that reflects the original 1880s bottle.
