Nikka Miyagikyo Grande Single Malt Japanese Whisky

Nikka releasied a pair of Single Malt whiskies from their two flagship Japanese distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, titled “Nikka Grande”. This is the Miyagikyo Grande release, created using a portion of the disitllery’s sherry cask matured liquid, as well as a smaller amount of virgin oak matured whisky.
Miyagikyo malts are described as elegant and fruity. Made from light peated and non-peated malted barley, whiskies distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam express a signature fruitiness and delicate mouthfeel.

    Nose:    Very fruit-driven, dark stone fruits, some pepperiness, full bodied red grapes, some liquorice, honey and light molasses, with rosemary and clove herbs and chalk.

    Taste:    Spiced or mulled wine, more dark stone fruits, with baking spices, namely cinnamon and anise. Grape notes, dried raisins and prunes, dried herbs, notes of espresso, milk chocolates and vanilla oats.

    Finish:    Nice, spicy, medium length finish.
