Nikka Miyagikyo 90th Anniversary Edition Single Malt Whisky

Miyagikyo Single Malt  Japanese Whisky presented in a Limited Edition case, released to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Nikka Whisky.
Miyagikyo malts are described as elegant and fruity. Made from light peated and non-peated malted barley, whiskies distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam express a signature fruitiness and delicate mouthfeel.

Nose:    Fresh orchard fruits, delicate florals, and a hint of vanilla.

Taste:    Layers of juicy apple, ripe pear, and malt, beautifully balanced by soft oak and a whisper of smoke.

Finish:    Smooth and satisfying, leaving a gentle impression of spice and sweetness.

Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a former Suntory employee who had studied at the University of Glasgow, and later trained as a blender at the now lost Hazelburn distillery in Campbeltown. Taketsuru opened the Yoichi distillery in the same year as establishing the company, followed by the Nishinomaya and Miyagikyo distilleries in 1959 and 1969, respectively. Since 1989 the company has also had a stake in the Scotch whisky industry after they purchased the struggling Ben Nevis distillery. Today they are one of the second largest whisky producer in Japan.
