Macallan 21 Year Old The Colour Collection Single Malt Whisky

Part of the Colour Collection from Macallan, the 21 Years Old Single Malt has been aged in American oak casks, enhanced by a delicate addition of European oak, seasoned with sherry wine from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
The Colour Collection, comprising 12, 15, 18, 21, and 30 Year Old expressions, is a celebration of The Macallan's commitment to Natural Colour and Sherry Seasoning.

The Colours of Jerez are reflected in this 21 Year old expression by artist and graphic designer David Carson, who brought the influence of the cask to the fore  through an array of rich brown tones that evoke the wood and its toasted, caramel flavours, with a hint of spice.

Nose:    Crème Brûlée, candied orange and lemon, sweet, aged oak with caramelised pineapple.

Taste:    Tropical fruits, candied ginger, coffee creme, hazelnuts, dark chocolate orange and cardamom.

Finish:    Medium with balanced oak spices.

Macallan was one of the first distillers in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then, Macallan has built a reputation as one of the world’s leading single malt whiskies. The creation of The Macallan draws on the vital contributing influences of Spain, North America and Scotland - and of their respective natural raw materials, combined with traditional methods and craftsmanship.
The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. The original name of the area was “Maghellan”, taken from the Gaelic word “magh”, meaning fertile ground and “Ellan”, from the Monk St.Fillan - who held a close association with the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had been making whisky on their Speyside farms in the area for centuries, using their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.
