Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt - Tsukuriwake 2024 Edition

A Limited Edition of Hakushu 18 Peated Japanese Single Malt, part of the 2024 Tsukuriwake Selection. Tsukuriwake is a creative exploration of the diverse whisky making techniques handed down by generations of chief blenders at Suntory Whisky. The 2024 Tsukuriwake Selection features four boundary-pushing Single Malts from the Yamazaki Distillery and Hakushu Distillery exploring artisanship through a diversity of making.
This release honours the art of blending at the Hakushu distillery and embodies Hakushu's unique style, with layers of rich peat balanced by vibrant, green notes from the surrounding forests of the Japanese Alps.
The Hakushu Distillery blenders work with peat, while softening the palate using the exceptional mountain water of the area, filtered through ancient granite rocks.

Nose:    Vibrant with top notes of sage, ripe green apple and hints of ripe pineapple.

Taste:    Complex smoke revealing layers of herbal, grapefruit and acacia honey notes.

Finish:   Clean smoke that lingers with undernotes of fresh green citrus.

Suntory are one of the founding fathers of Japanese whisky, established by Shinjirō Torii in 1899 as a wine store in Osaka. Expansion in the next decade saw the company move its grain production to a new Chita distillery in 1972, and open a second malt distillery, Hakushu, the following year.
Established in 1973, Hakushu Distillery is located in the foothills of Mt. Kaikomagatake in Japan's Southern Alps, where cool, clear waters flow through a pristine forest environment.
Like the environment in which it is created, the Suntory Hakushu is vibrant and verdant in flavour born of the ideas of second master blender, Keizo Saji.
