Bruichladdich Octomore 12.3 5 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

Octomore is the super-heavily peated single malt produced by Bruichladdich distillery, the most routinely heavily peated in the world. The whisky is named after the farm of the same name, located on a hillside north of the town of Port Charlotte. Having been traditionally an un-peated single malt due to the needs of its former owners for their blends, Murray McDavid was quick to diversify the Bruichladdich portfolio, also introducing the more lightly peated Port Charlotte and Lochindaal.
Two parcels of super heavily peated spirit were married together to create this 12.3 edition of Octomore: the first parcel (75%) was matured full term in first fill American whiskey casks; the second parcel (25%) was matured full term in first fill PX sherry butts from Fernando de Castilla.

Nose:    Delicate sherry notes of fig, raisin and dates combine with charcoal, boot polish smoky notes to set the tone for this dram. Light citrus and honey from the spirit combine with intense floral notes of honeysuckle and orange blossom before moving into dark toffee, milk chocolate and vanilla from the oak - adding complexity and depth to the aroma. Smoked grain, seaweed, linseed oil and tobacco follow as the whisky continues to open.

Taste:    Peppery nasturtium flowers, dark chocolate, earthy peat smoke andsherry fruits rush across the palate. The peat smoke and the dried fruit dominate before barley sugar and charred oak come through, releasing rich toffee and tobacco notes. Sweet pastry and toasted grain follow, before earthy peat smoke.

Finish:    Charcoal, soot and dried figs linger, with subtle hints of salted lemons and bitter chocolate.

Please note: The Octomore range outer tins are extremely prone to dings and scratches. The tins often arrive into our warehouse suffering from minor damage in transit. This is out of our control. When we dispatch to our customers, we will re-pack to avoid further damage in transit but collectors should have reasonable expectations in this regard.
