Octomore 09.2 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky | Bruichladdich
Experience the dark, enigmatic power of extreme peat with Octomore 09.2 Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Part of the revered Dialogos series from the innovative Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, Scotland, this limited-edition release explores the boundary between high PPM peat smoke and luxurious European oak wine wood influence. Distilled from 100% Scottish-grown Concerto barley peated to a colossal 156 PPM (parts per million), Octomore 09.2 is an uncompromised, natural-strength titan designed for serious peat heads, Islay single malt collectors, and fine spirit investors.
Super-heavily peated yet remarkably refined, Octomore 09.2 underwent a precise 5-year maturation journey in the warehouse vaults along the shores of Loch Indaal. The spirit was aged exclusively in premium European oak wine casks sourced from prestigious French wineries, which previously held rich, full-bodied red wine. Bottled at a potent natural cask strength of 58.2% ABV without chill-filtration or artificial colouring, this expression seamlessly marries intense peat smoke, medicinal campfire ash, and maritime brine with deep red berry sweetness, oak tannins, and dark chocolate richness.
The Art of Super-Heavily Peated Islay Malt
The Dialogos Concept: Octomore 09.2 challenges the notion that age alone defines complexity. By pairing young, aggressively peated Islay malt with active French oak wine barrels, Master Distiller Adam Hannett achieved an extraordinary balance where bold peat smoke and sweet, oak-derived fruit notes exist in dramatic harmony.
Tasting Notes
- Aroma / Nose: Intense, earthy, and complex. Dense campfire smoke, peat ash, and tar open the bouquet, followed by ripe blackberries, black currants, toasted oak, crushed black pepper, and medicinal iodine.
- Palate / Flavour: Full-bodied, fiery, and mouth-coating. Deep layers of dark cherry, red wine reduction, and dark cocoa merge effortlessly with medicinal peat, salted caramel, sweet vanillin, and charred oak tannins.
- Finish: Exceptionally long, smoky, and warming. It concludes with an enduring trail of peat embers, dry red wine fruitiness, sea salt spray, and subtle pipe tobacco.
Sip Octomore 09.2 neat to dissect its intense 156 PPM flavour structure, add a few drops of water to open up hidden red fruit sweetness, or preserve it sealed as a prized collectible in your rare Islay whisky portfolio.
Please note: The Octomore range outer tins are extremely prone to dings and scratches. The tins often arrive into our warehouse suffering from minor damage in transit. This is out of our control. When we dispatch to our customers, we will re-pack to avoid further damage in transit but collectors should have reasonable expectations in this regard.
